In the mid 70’s and again in the ‘80’s, I traveled to Mexico. I explored the Mexican mountains and coastal villages through
the lens of a camera , traveling with the Natives in their
school buses. While traveling and seeing the people and
their landscapes, I was struck by the colors of the garments
and shawls worn ,in contrast to the purple hue of the skies beyond. At that time, photography was my passion.
Weaving was simply appreciated but not yet learned.

The richness of the colors and this landscape continued to intrigue me as I found myself drawn to fibers arts in the years ahead. Many chapters later, during a particularly compelling time
in my life, I had a friend teach me the basics of warping a loom.
From there, I taught myself through tireless repetitions of
warp/weave, warp/ weave until the creaking of the loom became
part of my daily life. I had a neighbor once tell me that she found
the sounds from my loom to be soothing as she rocked her infant
to sleep in the nights. She actually heard the creaking loom from
across the street!

I found myself drawn once again to the bright rich
colors like those that inspired me in Mexico. Now as
then, I continue to experience my weaving as interplay
of textures and colors and fibers blending together
into one. My palette has changed and now has taken
to the neutrals and earth tones, however the bright
fibers will always inspire me.
